Installing The Novell Client (Windows XP)

  • Novell Client 4.91 SP5 English (click this link to run the exe file)

  • Click 'run' on the windows pop up,



  • Then select 'unzip' when you see the option below.



  • The files will be un-zipped to your machine. Click ok.



  • Navigate to your C drive and you will find a Novell folder.



  • Inside the Novell folder there is a the subdirectory "Novell Client 4.91 SP3 English".
  • Click into this folder and double click on the setupnw.exe file.



  • Select the 'custom' install option.



  • Say 'next' to the all default options, except you need to unselect 'NMAS'


  • and tick 'IP and IPX'



  • When you click finish the install will start and files will be copied to the correct folders.



  • Once the install is complete you will be asked to reboot your machine.


  • When your machine re-starts, you will be presented with the Novell login box. You will need to login to the machine locally. tick the
    'workstation only' box.


  • Once you've logged in a red letter N will apear in the bottom right hand corner of your screen.



  • Right click on the N and select 'Novel Client Properties'.



  • Select the 'Location Profiles' tab.



  • Click on default and select properties.



  • Then select properties again.



  • Enter the user's network login name, in the 'credentials' tab.

    1. If you are accessing the Network from outside the Faculty: type or paste the IP address 131.111.165.100 into the server box. 2. If you are accessing the Network from inside the Faculty: In the 'eDirectory' tab make sure that the Tree is set to 'econ-tree' and that the context is set to 'people.econ'.


  • Click ok and then ok again to take you back to the client configaration box.


  • Choose the 'single sign on' tab and tick the 'enable single sign on' option.



  • Then choose the 'Advanced login' tab and set the 'workstation only default' option to 'on'.



  • Also in this tab set 'remember work station only setting' to 'off'.



  • Click 'ok' and reboot the machine.

  • From now on, when your computer starts you will get a login screen. This should automatically have the "Workstation only" box ticked, and your account name on your own computer filled in. If you have a password, you will need to type it, otherwise you can just click "OK".
  • Once logged into your computer, there should be a red N near the clock (usually the bottom right hand corner). To login to the Faculty network right click on the N and choose "Novell Login..."


  • You should then be able to login with your username and Faculty password. This is the same password that you would use for the Econ-centenary service.
    If you have problems logging in, you could try adding ".people.econ" to the end of your username, which is sometimes necessary.
