BA in Economics
|
Course PrerequisitesFor admission in October 2009 the University admissions requirements mean that an A-level in Mathematics, or an equivalent qualification, is essential for those planning to study Economics. Whilst Economics and Further Mathematics are also useful subjects, the Faculty does not impose these requirements as prerequisites and other A-level combinations will be regarded as acceptable by the majority of colleges. However, almost all colleges will demand minimum grades of AAB, and in the vast majority of offers require grades of A*AA. Many colleges will have a strong preference for subjects such as sciences, modern and classical languages, history, geography etc. for the combination of three A-level subjects, rather than more vocational subjects such as Business Studies and Accounting. However colleges will consider applications from candidates with A-level Business Studies, as an alternative to Economics, in cases where the candidate’s school was unable to provide teaching in Economics. If you are in any doubt as to whether your combination of A-levels will be regarded as acceptable, you should discuss the matter at an Open Day, or with the Admissions Tutor of your preferred college, before making a formal application. Most colleges are willing to accept high grades in Scottish examinations, the International Baccalaureate, or similar qualifications, as equivalent to A-level examinations.
