The aim is to provide a rigorous graduate level training in microeconomic theory. Topics covered include: consumer and producer theory; choice under uncertainty; general equilibrium theory; game theory; contract theory; industrial organisation.

Macroeconomics

Co-ordinator: Dr. T. Cavalcanti

This course covers key theoretical and empirical contributions that help to explain and analyze macroeconomic  phenomena. It investigates economic growth, business cycles, consumption, investment, unemployment, rigidities,  fiscal and monetary policy, and exchange rates.

Econometrics

Co-ordinator: Professor R.J. Smith

The aim is to provide a graduate level training in econometric methods. The emphasis of the course is on single equation models together; empirical examples are provided both to motivate and to illustrate the methods. Topics will include: least squares and the linear regression model; instrumental variables; maximum likelihood estimation and test procedures; binary choice and count data models; time series models; simple dynamic structures; panel data models.
